John Montagu, 2nd Duke of Montagu, KG, GMB, PC (1690 – 5 July 1749), styled Viscount Monthermer until 1705 and Marquess of Monthermer between 1705 and 1709, was a British peer. John Montagu was born on November 13 th, 1718 in Cheswick, England to Edward Richard Montagu and Elizabeth Popham Montagu.When he was only four years old, his father passed away unexpectedly. John Montagu, 4th earl of Sandwich, British first lord of the Admiralty during the American Revolution and the man for whom the sandwich was named. His interest in naval affairs and his promotion of exploration also led English explorer Captain James Cook to name the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) after him. Montagu is a direct descendant of John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, who is often credited as the inventor of the sandwich. The current Earl of Sandwich concedes that people in England and beyond were certainly eating sandwiches long before they were ever called sandwiches.

Earl Of Sandwich

All reservations payable in full three weeks prior to guests arrival at John Montagu Guesthouse.
Cancellations: Deposit is non-refundable, unless reserved period is re-let.
Arrivals: from 14h00 or earlier if pre-arranged. Late arrivals to notify us accordingly.
The Guest House has a policy of not allowing smoking inside the building.
